THE NEXT GREATEST GENERATION
When Gennifer Flowers, an amateur singer and Bill Clinton victim, was destroyed for telling the truth about their squalid affair, the battle for our culture became all-out war. The American public was little prepared for the years of sleaze that would pour out of the nation’s capital after the infamous March 1992 Hillary and Bill interview in which the presidential candidate couple lied about the Flowers trysts without so much as a flinch. The cultural slippery slope became a well-lubed luge ride after that. An administration for whom dishonesty, sexual misconduct, arrogance and general corruption was business as usual, was shielded by an equally corrupt mainstream media.
Those of us on the Right, Left, and middlin’ ground, who knew in our gut that something was grotesquely amiss, started to push back. The media culture started to change. Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Fox News quickly became household names; the pointmen on the front lines of a new kind of conflict. The war was between those who would shred the Constitution and make America into an amoral, godless, nanny state, versus those who would restore America to her historical exceptionalism, and the Constitution to its proper form and intent. It’s nearly 20 years since Gennifer Flowers (and perhaps scores of abused women) would be summarily crushed by Bill Clinton and his sausage grinder political machine, and the culture war is reaching a fever pitch
Like a socio-political Rubik’s Cube the players have switched places, evolved, and finally been moved into their proper color. There is Conservatism. And there is Evil. The GOP, Libertarians, and Independents who look to the Founders and still regard the U.S. Constitution as the law of the land, over the rules and capriciousness of men, have combined under the Tea Party umbrella. But more than having identifying labels, these are the Americans who want this to stay a great, good, and free country. The others will almost invariably identify themselves as Democrats. That once sane party embraces anarchists, socialists, Marxists, Communists, big-government, anti-marriage, anti-family, anti-freedom, illegal immigration, public school enslavement, public-sector union thuggery, vote fraud, abortion on demand, sexual licentiousness, state-run health care, confiscation of property, firearms, and the gradual elimination of personal liberty. Raw, cruel, mad, power.
The parents of the Baby Boomers are referred to at the “Greatest Generation.” They survived the hardships and inept politics of the Great Depression. They helped win World War II through sacrifice at home and unmatched valor abroad. Then they resolutely ignited the engine of American capitalism to usher in the prosperity of the 1950s. Truth be told, America has known many great generations. The Pilgrims who settled a wilderness for the sake of liberty, the Colonists who countenanced English rule until the insult became to great, and then reasoned and fought their way to a new and superior form of Constitutional government. The generation that crossed the plains to settle the vast Western territories, Mountain men, Mormons, 49ers, the blazers of the Oregon Trail. The generation that endured the horrors of the Civil War. The generation of immigrants who entered via Ellis Island to build their own American dreams. The great generations of America are many and, God willing, another will emerge in the midst of the bitter war for culture and freedom in which we are now engaged.
Are you one of the next Greatest Generation? The next greatest generation must coalesce all of the ideals and strivings of our predecessors. We must return to the idea that the United States of America was founded upon the principles of unalienable rights and individual liberties. We must embrace the Constitution with its restraints on government; the notion that the government has no power save that which the governed lend to it. We must reject the absolute power of tyrants, whether they be monarchs or tyrannical ideologies. We must return to the Creator, His irrevocable rights, and “In God We Trust.” We must be pioneers, stepping out of our comfortable lives into the frontier of political discourse, communications technology, scientific discovery, innovation, new models for business, education, and community life. We must fight against our American brothers if they favor the enslavement of poverty and big government over prosperity and self-reliance. We must fight the enemy who would pervert government through punishment and rule by agency, and executive fiat. We must fight the enemy who exhorts us to return to a lower standard of living all for the lie that the very breath of living things is a poisonous gas. We must fight for the dignity of every person, born and unborn, male and female, young and old, rich and poor, the equal opportunity for all, and the free marketplace where creativity, good ideas, and hard work can lift anyone to an opportune station. We must fight a war of words, information, news, commentary, insight, rhetoric, and we must make the truth our primary weapon. We must expose evil when it rears itself. We must call it what it is. We must call out criminal aliens for what they are and cease the selective application of law. We must become a lawful people living in orderly communities, nurturing healthy families. And like the men who stormed the beaches of Normandy, we must push on with faith through fear, discomfort and loss.
The year 2011 is one of the most dangerous times mankind has ever known. We have to step up and volunteer to save America from its enemies without and within. Are you prepared? Ready, set… Tweet, Facebook, blog, campaign, upload the videos, sign the petitions, send the emails and faxes, make the phone calls, make the picket signs, show up at rallies, thank a veteran, support the troops with care packages, walk your precincts, caucus with your party, fundraise, go to the Townhalls, go to the Capitols in your state and in D.C., talk to your friends, reason, use logic, kindness, research, and always the truth.
As Ronald Reagan famously said “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”
