It appears that the Republican candidate hoping to unseat Colorado D-3 Congressman, Scott Tipton, is either a wolf in sheep’s clothing, or on a very ambitious job hunt.
As a close neighbor and regular user of Colorado National Monument in western Colorado close to Grand Junction, I suffered a sharp attack of NIMBYism when I heard of a 2011 proposal to turn one of the nation’s oldest national monuments into one of its smallest, newest national parks.
The words “Operation Babylift” had a muted familiarity to me. I was 13 years old at the time the United States Military was forced by the 94th Congress to pull out of Southeast Asia. But my interest grew and Bob described to me an event which would come to be known as one of the greatest humanitarian efforts of the 20th Century.
Those homes, farming operations, and indeed everything within the “view shed” of this magical mesa may be changed forever.
The blowback by him and his followers was epic! I was savaged on the wall of McConnell’s Facebook page, drawn and quartered, and attacked as a horrible “establishment Republican.” When I tried to bring some measure of civility to the conversation, I was called a “condescending Liberal.”
I can’t wait for this excellent legislation to be passed and then implemented. I will enjoy the contentious duels between teacher’s unions and environmentalist wackos, all to be played out in the gladiatorial arenas of America’s vast energy reserves. I will be rooting for the kids. I want them to have the best education that energy leases can buy.
