The largest and most fragile outer ring would be the nation itself. Operations of federal government, supply chains, national banks, military chains of command, etc. are highly vulnerable to attack because they are literally exposed to all of the danger in the world. You have little or no control over what happens on the national level.
The model of preparedness, which I call The Concentric Rings of Security, places the power of personal safety and survival with the individual.
Hurricane Sandy, Katrina, and all the muddy, bloody disasters of recent memory are hard-knocks object lessons of government’s inability, even under the best of circumstances, to mobilize quickly and sufficiently enough to take care of people in the midst of chaos and destruction.
These are fearful times. That fear comes from uncertainty, the dread of what could happen. That dread can be replaced with calm and resolve. All we have to do is take a few days, and plan and prepare to make our homes places of refuge.
. I am speaking of the most basic form of home preparedness; that which consists of a full larder and a well stocked medicine cabinet. The following is a list of items and their uses that will help almost anyone in any economic situation to be prepared.
