Pushing Back Against Perversity
“I believe with all my heart that standing up for America means standing up for the God who has so blessed our land. We need God’s help to guide our nation through stormy seas. But we can’t expect Him to protect America in a crisis if we just leave Him over on the shelf in our day-to-day living.” ~Ronald Reagan
January 1st, 2014 will mark the end of a generations-long tradition for me and my family. My parents bought their first television set sometime in the mid-1960s–our first color set around 1975–and the highlight of New Year’s Day was to watch the Rose Bowl Parade. Even watching it broadcast in black and white we would wonder at the elegance and detail in the floats. It was a marvel and a tradition which in itself seemed to define the beauty and bounty of America. That tradition is now defunct in my home, and thousands–perhaps millions of others. Sadly, the organizers of the Rose Bowl Parade have agreed to appease the politically correct assertions of approximately 2% of the population, those who identify themselves as homosexual, by hosting a homosexual “marriage” on one of the float entries.
Let me be clear that I have many friends and colleagues who choose to live as homosexuals, some who have been “married.” But those facts don’t define who they are to me, because I don’t define people by what they choose to do with their genitals. This exemplifies the differences in Conservative and Liberal thought. Liberals judge people only by their superficial aspects such as race, sexual-orientation, income, and gender. Conservatives believe that people are defined, and should be judged, according to their actions which derive from the content of their character.
1 Samuel 16:7
7 But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.
All of God’s children, save for those who present a threat, are treated by me with respect. My criticisms are of ideas and group politics, not of individuals who choose differently than I.
The A&E Phil Robertson debacle marked a pivot point in the leftist guilt-driven campaign for “tolerance” of all things our Greatest Generation parents found too disgusting for discussion. It also woke Americans up to the utter lack of tolerance on the part of the homosexual lobby, namely GLAAD. The Rose Parade float demands not just “tolerance,” but it exposes American children to an event which, by definition, is perverted. It’s designed to normalize that which is not normal, and paint a “virtuous” portrait of the homosexual lifestyle. After all, what could be more wholesome than a wedding on a radiant parade float? Satan has a diabolical counterfeit for everything beautiful and true, and this homosexual “wedding” being welcomed into a traditionally wholesome family event, is the very essence of a lie.
The intent and design behind the push to normalize homosexuality is evil. I’m one of thousands–perhaps millions–of Americans who are sick and tired of having truth, marriage, family, and the God who created them all, putrefied by the lie that homosexual practices are above reproach and beyond criticism, and that that such practices are legitimate and can constitute holy matrimony.
The United States of America is a majority Christian nation. Its founding documents are derived from the Biblical premise that God, the Creator of man, is a loving God who regards all His children to be equal in His sight. Our secular laws are undeniably based on these sacred principles, and there is no way that America can remain a free nation with equal rights for all if the people disengage from God and deny the absolute truths upon which it is founded. The assertion that homosexuals can marry and that their sexual arrangements are “normal” is a radical departure from our religious foundations, and an insult to the Creator who inspired the men and women who laid those foundations.
I am reminded, in the wake of the Christmas season, that the Prince Peace is not the Prince of Surrender. A misreading of the Christian ethos of universal love has lead many to mistake compassion and love for the sinful soul–which we all are–for tolerance and approbation of the sinful acts committed. That could not be farther from reality.
Doctrine and Covenants
31 For I the Lord cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance;
Jesus Christ is a fierce defender of His absolute truths, and I will defend them as well. It is absolutely true that homosexual relations–just as all sexual relations outside of the holy covenant of God-ordained marriage–are sinful. Regardless of changes in secular law, it is absolutely true that God instituted marriage and family for the temporal safety and eternal benefit of His children. It is absolutely true that sexual perversity will, sooner or later, be accompanied by natural consequences which potentially devastate its practitioner(s). It is absolutely true that in the long run, given the eternal nature of God’s Plan of Salvation, homosexuality is incompatible with human happiness. One can no more extinguish these truths with “evolving” social policies than a man can turn off the sun by covering his eyes.
27 Wherefore, men are free according to the flesh; and all things are given them which are expedient unto man. And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself.
There is nothing to be gained by Americans if they allow tolerance of perversity to further erode culture, education, religion, entertainment, and the family itself. There is everything to be gained, and many things that can be restored, if the Judeo-Christian virtues so critical to our national identity, are employed to push back against the tsunami of perversity which is poised to swallow up our country and its emerging generations. I resolve in 2014 to fight the good fight and defend the Name of Jesus Christ, His truth and His people. Kind-hearted Christians need not commit spiritual suicide by bending in surrender to perversity and darkness.
15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
