PREPARE AND YE SHALL NOT FEAR
Do you ever get the feeling that it is all too big, too complex, and too fast? I do. I look at global commotion, falling governments, revolutions for democracy, genocides by tyrants, the Constitution hanging by a thread, earthquakes, financial catastrophe, social upheaval, and trials that test families and individuals to the utmost of human endurance, and I feel powerless to turn back the deluge. But in truth I have a lot of power to control the condition of those things closest to me and of the greatest importance; my home, my family, and my relationship with Heavenly Father.
This control takes the form of simple preparation, not at some future time, in an abstract, psychological process of accepting the status quo, but today, in concrete actions that will make your home a haven of bounty, and your families bulwarks of faith and confidence.
We will no longer be able to depend on the local governments or the federal nanny-state to meet our emergent needs. We must prepare now to face burgeoning fuel and food prices head-on. We are in the midst of an economic crisis that will drench this generation in shock and awe. The Boom generation in America has become complacent. There has never been a genuine dearth of anything. Even as America limped her way through Jimmy Carter’s “oil crisis” and inflation of the late 1970’s there were still more cars, refrigerators and televisions, and sundry comforts and conveniences per household than any other generation could have imagined. There is a test lying in wait for all of us. We will be tested as our standard of living decreases, our surpluses evaporate and we have to lurch back to a time when lifestyles and homes were modest and self-sustaining. The test will be painful, for awhile, but we can and will pass it if we make our homes the focus and resource of our own supply. The federal government, states, counties and cities are going broke. If they are wise they will cut entitlements and social services. It will become necessary for churches, neighborhoods, and communities to shore up their own citizens and provide for emergency needs where there is no other succor. This test will help us relearn that the only perpetual source of life’s necessities comes from the work of our own hands, the ingenuity and resolve of our own minds, and the providence of God.
I have provided numerous links to a variety of sources for information about how to customize a preparedness plan for your home and your family. There is information in these links that will help you prepare to take care of your family and neighbors whether you live in an apartment in a densely-packed urban area, or in a house with acreage. Follow these links, study each one, and take the advice of modern-day prophecy:
I tell you these things because of your prayers; wherefore, treasure up wisdom in your bosoms, lest the wickedness of men reveal these things unto you by their wickedness, in a manner which shall speak in your ears with a voice louder than that which shall shake the earth; but if ye are prepared ye shall not fear.
