Colorado Democrats: This is What “War on Women” Looks Like
The coverage of the gun control hearings in Denver by Dana Loesch on her radio show, and Glenn Beck’s online magazine, The Blaze, has set off a wildfire of condemnation against Colorado Democrats who appear to favor gun control and the rights of rapists over the ability of women to defend themselves against violent criminals.
As I articulated in my article of two weeks ago, Colorado “Democrats favor the rights of criminals over the rights of law-abiding citizens.” In a damning exchange that took place on March 4 during State Senate hearings on a variety of gun control bills, Democrats minimized the personal suffering of several female rape victims, and then belittled the women’s fervent support of their right to defend their own bodies with a concealed firearm. The most sickening of these exchanges took place between Democrat State Senator Evie Hudak and rape survivor Amanda Collins. Following Collins’ agonizing testimony, which included painful recollections of the rape event which she survived, Senator Hudak countered with, “actually, statistics are not on your side, even if you had a gun.”
Liberal Democrat Evie Hudak said, later, in an effort to deflect blowback, “I am really looking out for their best interest,” in reference to female rape victims. Collins understandably doubts the authenticity of the Senator’s apology. This most recent travesty to come out of the Democrat caucus in Colorado’s General Assembly compounds a series of remarks that indicate a pro-criminal, anti-self defense, disposition. Less than two weeks ago Colorado Representative, liberal Democrat Joe Salazar, insinuated, while testifying in support of the same gun control bill that Senator Hudak was defending, that women could not be trusted with a firearm in potential rape situation. He said;
“That’s why we have call boxes, that’s why we have safe zones, that’s why we have whistles, because you just don’t know who you’re going to be shooting at. And you don’t know, if you feel like you’re going to be raped, or if you feel like someone’s been following you around, or if you feel like you’re in trouble, and when you may actually not be, that you pop out that gun and you pop around that somebody.”
The impression left by these unguarded moments is that the Democrats in Colorado are waging a war against the rights of women, and other vulnerable individuals, to protect themselves against rape. This is exacerbated by Speaker of the Colorado House of Representatives, Mark Ferrandino, who refuses to bring “Jessica’s Law” to the assembly floor for a vote. Ferrandino killed Colorado’s version of Jessica’s Law, which establishes strict mandatory penalties for child rapists, last week by sending it to the “Military and Veterans Affairs Committee” where it was dismissed without consideration.
Dark times have descended upon Colorado’s state government. Empowered Liberal Democrats are trampling on the personal rights of millions within our state, and they seem beyond conscience and past feeling in their capacity to ignore the needs of individuals who simply want protect their lives and property in the way they see fit. The blue tide is pushing forward with an inexorable agenda to control citizens and eradicate the opposition. It should be no surprise that Democrats are willing to sacrifice rape survivors and potential rape victims–such as those who would be protected by Jessica’s Law–on the altar of big government control over the lives of citizens. The ideology of the Left discounts individual worth and the sovereignty over one’s own life and body. Policies coming from the Left impede the God-given right to defend life, chastity, sovereignty, and body. The American Left, composed of Democrats, Progressives, Liberals, Socialists, Marxists, and all other “collectivists,” reverences abortion, big government, recreational drug use, social experimentation, and every behavior and doctrine that diminishes individual sanctity and power.
The quality of being ‘past feeling’ is acquired incrementally, but Democrats are the party that callously disregards the needs of individuals. Progressives do not strive to create conditions under which people can prosper, they seek control of the individual on behalf of the illusory ‘collective.’ They’ve become hardened to the suffering of individuals, and do all within their power to make government the only means of succor for ‘the masses.’ The following exchange between liberal Democrat Hudak and rape survivor Amanda Collins is a distressing example of this truth.
Hudak: You said that you were a martial arts student. And yet because this individual was so large he was able to overcome you even with your skills. And chances are that if you had had a gun then he would have been able to get that from you and possibly use it against you.
Collins: Respectfully Senator you were not there. I was there. I know without a doubt in my mind that at some point I would have been able to stop my attack by using my firearm. He already had a weapon – he didn’t need mine.
Their own words, actions, and irresponsible policies are sufficient testimony from Colorado Democrats that they are the party of criminals’ rights. This is what ‘war on women’ looks like.
